Creation and responsibility

Allah announced the placing of a successor on earth. Adam was taught the names, and the angels were commanded to prostrate. Iblis refused through pride; the account distinguishes human responsibility from arrogance.

Adam and his spouse

They were given a dwelling in the garden and warned against a particular tree. The Qur’an describes the temptation of both spouses, rather than assigning the whole responsibility to the woman.

A return through repentance

Both acknowledged their wrong and sought mercy. Adam received words from his Lord, who accepted his repentance. Their earthly life came with the promise of guidance.

The two sons

The Qur’an tells of two sons bringing offerings, jealousy, a killing, and a raven teaching burial. It does not name the sons in this passage; the family explorer therefore keeps them unnamed.

Guidance after descent

Surah Taha joins the descent to earth with a promise about following guidance and a warning about turning away. The continuation of Adam’s story is framed around the choices of earthly life.
