Worship and honest measures

Reform rather than personal gain

He explained that he did not wish to practise what he forbade. He sought reform as far as he could, relying on Allah, and called his people to repentance.

Threats and rejection

His opponents threatened expulsion and belittled him. The Qur’an contrasts their confidence with the rescue of the messenger and believers.

The people of the thicket

A further account names Shu’ayb in addressing the people of the thicket, again condemning dishonest measurement. Their rejection ends in judgement.
