Yaqub is named in the good news concerning Ishaq. His place in Ibrahim’s household is also recalled in Yusuf’s story.
Yusuf told him of eleven stars, the sun, and moon. Yaqub counselled him not to tell his brothers and spoke of Allah’s favour upon their family.
Faced with the brothers’ account of Yusuf’s disappearance, he recognised that something was wrong and turned to patient reliance upon Allah. His later sorrow did not mean he gave up hope.
The restored family asked him to seek forgiveness. Yusuf welcomed his parents, and the earlier dream found its fulfilment. The passage does not name Yusuf’s mother.
The Qur’an describes Yaqub asking his sons what they would worship after him as death approached. They affirmed worship of the one God.
