His brothers’ jealousy led them to leave him in a well. Travellers found him, and he was sold; the account contrasts human planning with Allah’s unfolding purpose.

Integrity under pressure

In the household where he grew up, he resisted an improper invitation and sought Allah’s protection. The Qur’an describes the accusation, evidence, and pressure that followed.

Prison and service

In prison he explained faith before interpreting the dreams of two companions. He asked the one who would be released to mention his case, but remained there longer.

The king’s dream

He explained the coming years of plenty and scarcity and a plan to conserve grain. Before leaving prison, he sought a public examination of the earlier accusation.

Responsibility and a family test
