Begin with the essentials
Learn how to prepare for prayer and start observing the five daily prayers as you learn. Practise Al-Fatiha a little at a time. If you cannot yet recite it or have a physical limitation, seek guidance about the appropriate concession; do not assume you must wait until your Arabic or movements are perfect.
Build a small daily rhythm
In your first week, read a short passage with its meaning, practise wudu, and ask a trusted teacher to walk through a prayer with you. A few focused minutes can be more manageable than trying to learn every detail at once. The checklist below is an optional learning aid, not a measure of faith.
Learn what applies to your circumstances
Islam’s foundations include prayer, zakah, fasting Ramadan, and pilgrimage for those able. Zakah depends on qualifying wealth and other conditions; Hajj depends on ability. Learn what applies to you with a qualified teacher. Avoid assuming every practice is immediately relevant in the same way.
